Abstract :
A novel low-profile broadband UHF RFID tag antenna mountable on metallic plate is proposed. By adding a T-shaped microstrip line reactive loading to the radiating patch, an additional resonant mode is excited; hence the bandwidth can be greatly enhanced. The proposed antenna has a half-power bandwidth of 138 MHz (15.3%) in free space and 131 MHz (14.5%) while mounted on a metal plate, both of which entirely cover all UHF RFID bands (840-960 MHz). The proposed antenna can be easily fabricated at low cost by etching a thin inexpensive FR4 substrate.
