Abstract :
This paper proposes an optical AM-VSB CATV link which utilizes a traveling wave semiconductor optical amplifier (TWSOA) as an external modulator and a high-power CW DFB laser diode, as an alternative to directly modulated DFB laser based transmitters. We use computer simulation techniques to investigate the potential and limitations of TWSOAs when used as external analog modulators at the transmitter end of multi-channel AM-VSB CATV lightwave systems
