Abstract
The authors present a method for coherent wideband direction finding of coplanar far field sources impinging on a two-dimensional array with a known arbitrary geometry. Termed the array manifold interpolation (AMI) method, it is practical, computationally efficient and robust. It is based on spatial interpolation of the array output, followed by coherent averaging of the narrowband covariance matrices. For the special case of a uniform circular array, the authors present a fast implementation of the AMI method, termed the circular manifold interpolation (CMI) method, which utilizes the FFT algorithm
