Abstract
The combined wireless and optical communications offers an economic and flexible solution for local area networks (LANs) mainly in office buildings. The performance of the system is enhanced by applying subcarriers which allow the transmission of the radio channels without changing their format. The reception is significantly improved by a direct optical-subcarrier mixing method. This method provides optical detection and frequency shifting at the same time. Thus the construction of the radio node becomes much simpler
