Abstract
In this paper we present the modeling of hierarchical routing of a flexible production line by Petri nets. The routing is divided into the sequential routing of workcells and the parallel routing within workcells. Simulations on the Petri net model deliver a performance diagram. The performance diagram depicts the performance a workcell can achieve for a certain number of workstations and operators. It is used to optimize the number of operators by characteristic curves.
