Abstract
The new written pole motor offers an opportunity to provide a range of practical low inrush single-phase synchronous motors up to 100 HP. Prototype motors up to 25 HP have been made and demonstrated confirming the unique low starting current and high efficiency. Three market segments: agriculture, irrigation and water and waste water were identified as promising for the new motors. Each segment was researched for beneficial applications and user acceptance. Phase convertors, adjustable speed drives and internal combustion engines strongly influence the market for the written pole motor
