Abstract
Some kinds of aquatic fishes developed an ability to generate a weak electric field actively and detect its change due to the presence or absence of objects in their surroundings. During its hunting, a rapid and precise strike must be initiated almost immediately upon detection-otherwise, the prey will rapidly pass out of the sensory volume. From the point of view of location mechanism, we investigated the effect of different manners in active underwater electrolocation with direct current excitation. The following conclusions were obtained. 1. The monotonicity of the curve has no reference to the order of processes, which means it does no matter with the manner of movement in the prey strikes. 2. Objects with different electrical properties have different asymmetries in curves. This may be used to determine the electrical property of the object.
