Abstract :
Traditionally, system resource management software focuses on accessing all kinds of specific manageability interfaces of many managed resources. Web Services-based system resource management is a novel research direction. In this paper, because Web Services for Management specification (WS-Management), as an initiative of DMTF organization, helps to build the Web Services-Support manageability interfaces of IT resources, we propose WS-M4: a novel WS-Management-based management middleware model. This model utilizes WS-Management protocol to support system resource management. We describe this model architecture, including Manager Layer, WS-Management-based Middleware Layer, and Manageable Resource Layer. As part of prototype work, we discuss Wiseman-WMI based system resource management implementation scheme, and then describe the test case executing process, and analyze the experiment results. At last, from our research experiences and related survey, we analyze the prospective research direction and challenges in this field.
