Abstract
A frequency divider concept is demonstrated which is capable of variable frequency division ratios. The core of the circuit consists of a Sclztiiitt trigger that changes states wheu the volrage across a charge-up capacitor surpasses the high reference voltage of the TriggeK The capacitor is charged through a resistor whose value is seiisitive to the frequericy of the inpur signal to be divided. In tlzis i m " r the charge-up time of the capacitor is made frequencq\´ dependent. By varying the reference voItages of the Schiiiitt trigger; the time ir takes for the capacitor voltage to surpass the high reference voltage is changed arid consequentlji the period of the output signal of the Trigger changes, thereby achievitig fregiieacy division. Experitneatal results are presented for a circuit with various frequency division ratios.
