    Based on the theories of landscape ecology, the meanings of coarsescale pattern of plant diversity conservation (including point/line/face) were summarized. A finescale pattern of plant diversity conservation combined with point/line/face was suggested and the meanings were clearly described. Then the point/line/face theory was applied to the urban plant diversity conservation program of Xianning city, Hubei, China; the short and long term conservation projects were set and how to combine different levels (including point/line/face) of conservation projects were analyzed. The research can provide guidance for urban plant diversity conservation in other cities.
