Abstract :
An engineering information system (EIS) is described that provides a framework for tool integration based on information sharing. The basic functions of the EIS are outlined, and EIS program goals are discussed. These include integration and uniformity; acceptability; adaptability and extensibility; and easy insertion into existing design environments.<>
