Abstract
Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) based ultra-wideband (UWB) communication systems are becoming industry standard. In our recent work, we have found that the coding gain of a preceded UWB OFDM system can be maximized if the out-of-phase autocorrelation of the encoding sequence is zero for initial lags. In this paper, we consider perfectly balanced binary encoding sequences. Our simulation results show that sequences with coding gain close to its maximum value produce comparable results. For shorter length sequences, we use exhaustive computer search to find sequences with best possible autocorrelation. We also propose different designs for larger length sequences.
