Abstract
Approval has been given by appropriate safety and regulatory authorities for the D-T operation of JET with up to 20 g of tritium in torus systems and felt the generation of 14 Mev neutrons within a limit of 2.5×1020 (the programme plan is for 2×1020). This permits the DTE1 series of experiments to be performed. The paper presents the results of the safety case analysis, concentrating in particular on the methodology of accident sequence identification including elimination of low consequence events; the source terms, dose factors and consequences for key design basis and beyond design basis accidents; and the assessed probabilities of such events
