Abstract
Summary form only given, as follows. An alternative matching mechanism in ART-1 that does not use attentional gain control is presented. The motivation for this modification is to reduce the amount of circuitry in a hardware implementation of ART-1. A new reset rule and a different initial condition for top-down traces are introduced. The simulated behavior of the original ART-1 is compared to that of the modified design.<>
