Abstract :
The authors present several ideas relevant to the neural coding of interaural time difference for binaural sound localization. The nonhomogeneous Poisson point process is used to model neural activity in the auditory nerve. A simple paradigm is proposed for relating acoustic stimuli to the intensity function of the Poisson process. A coincidence model for place coding of timing information is described in this framework. Some examples are included followed by comments about future research
