Abstract
In low and medium power propulsion (LPP, MPP) the IGBT has basically replaced alternative semiconductors. The IGBT module design has been standardised. In the field of high power propulsion (HPP) the current status is more complex. Then are very different converters available or under development based on significantly different semiconductor designs. This paper tries to summarise development trends of propulsion systems. The correlation of converter and semiconductor design is discussed
