Abstract
Electric Traction is the most common public transport used for the long distance travel by common people in India. This paper investigate the harmonics of Electric Traction system in Indian railways by taking measurements at 110/25kV traction substations. This also calculates the total harmonic distortion of current and voltage harmonics in the feeder of the traction substation. This gives an idea about the issues due to the presence of harmonics in Traction systems to the public utility systems. A single tuned LC filter, tuned to filter out 3rd harmonic is proposed at the end.
