Abstract :
This paper presents a numerical analysis on the effectiveness of SAR reduction by attaching conductive shielding material to mobile phone. The characteristics of aluminium sheet that acts as a conductive shielding material on the SAR reduction such as position, thickness, and size are investigated in this research. It also studies the effects of conductive shielding material on the antenna performance. All numerical simulations are performed using Finite Different Time Domain (FDTD) method by CST Microwave Studio (CST MWS) at the GSM900 frequency band. The results revealed that the use of aluminium sheet will reduce the SAR averaged over 1g and 10g of tissues by 26.4% and 25.5%. The results also conclude that the attachment position of the shielding material is a main factor for achieving a high value of SAR reduction effectiveness and the radiation pattern of antenna can be less affected.
