Abstract
Summary form only given. The analytical treatment for the propagation of pulses of arbitrary shape on lossy transmission lines usually involves a Laplace transform technique. However, the inverse transform is difficult to obtain and requires cumbersome calculations. Obviously, this is also the one-dimensional problem of the propagation of a pulse in a lossy medium. A direct time domain approach that is valid for small losses was previously presented (Uslenghi, Digest of AMEREM ´96, p.348, 1996). That treatment is here generalized and systematized. Calculations are discussed for a lossless and a lossy transmission line.
