Abstract :
This paper presents a dedicated operator for the reciprocal evaluation in hardware. It uses a degree-3 polynomial approximation that only requires one complete multiplication and a small number of additions or subtractions. The polynomial approximation is determined using a specific method for the choice of the coefficients and the splitting of the input interval. This leads to small and fast FPGA implementations.
