Abstract
Wavelength-tunable, single-mode optical pulses are of great importance in the development of high-bit-rate communication. A simple and effective way to produce the pulses down to tens of picoseconds is by self-injection seeding of a gain-switched multi-mode laser diode. Bulk diffraction grating is often used as wavelength-selective element in self-seeding approach. However, free space operation is inevitably susceptible to vibrations and will face the problem of instability. The use of fiber grating considerably simplifies and stabilizes the setup, and thus is more suitable for practical applications. Here we report the investigation on the output characteristics of self-seeded optical pulses generated with a fiber grating
