Abstract
Variable switched reluctance (VSR) motors are an important new technology and they are starting to penetrate the industrial marketplace. Towards this goal NEC DENSEI has developed a variable speed VSR drive using sensorless control technology to be used in industrial applications. The paper discusses the algorithm used in this product. The author discusses experimental results of the development. The paper also discusses difficulties that the company experienced during the development. The author hopes to help the reader better understand the problems associated with the sensorless control of VSR motors
