Abstract :
Water logging land is one main kind of low productive soil in the middle and lower reaches area of Yangtze River and Yellow River and coastal areas in our country, and there is 24.4×106 hectares of flood soil and 7.67×106 hectares of soak soil in China. Water logging disaster reduce the production of crop by the harm of crop growth and development owing to too much soil moisture. For ages scientists conduct much study in this field. This text overviewed a portion of work of predecessors, mainly in the influence of water logging on the growth, morphogenesis and physiological change of crop. The results showed that water logging affected the crop in many ways. It resulted in the reduction of crop yields not only owing to the harm of root system but also the stunting of vegetative growth and reproductive growth. Water logging can cause different degree of harm to different kinds of crops or a plant in different period of duration. Maize is susceptible in seedling and rice is in boot stage. Generally water logging-tolerant crops or plants accommodate soil waterlogged stress by developing adventitious root or forming aerenchyma.
