Abstract :
Remote display protocol are widely used in server-based computing platforms. Remote display based desktop and application sharing systems enable users to access the whole remote desktop or a single application. Sharing systems encode all screen elements by fixed encoding methods to guarantee generality, without consideration of network environments and display output character of the shared applications. Prior researches figured out that multimedia and video replay could not be supported efficiently by remote display systems. In this paper, we present an adaptive encoding application sharing system, which could switch different encoding algorithm according to application´s display character. Video encoding is utilized to encode display-intensive area to solve display performance problem. The experimental results show that for web browsing application, the scheme reserves 9.5%~20.8% network traffics and guarantees low latency, for video replay, frame rate is increased by 4.2~17.9 times than traditional approach in which video data are encoded and broadcast.
