Abstract :
This paper presents a wireless system to reach a 300-Mbps transmit rate in OFDM wireless communication and a hardware architecture for the OFDM baseband transceiver. We study optimum parameters about OFDM frame, DFT size, and allocation of subcarriers that are required for the wireless system with a 80-MHz bandwidth, extending the IEEE802.11a standard. The proposed system has a maximum 300-Mbps transmit rate and attains 600 Mbps using MIMO-OFDM with two receiver antennas. We evaluated BER performance and designed the OFDM transceiver for the proposed wireless system as practical solutions. The transceiver operates at an 80-MHz frequency and occupies 1.37 million logic gates using a 0.25 μm CMOS technology. For rapid verification, the OFDM transceiver is implemented to a FPGA prototype that enables data transmission on a baseband channel.
