  • Abstract
The beam propagation method (BPM) is a widely used tool for computer simulation of light propagation in transparent media including optical waveguides. The paper reports some recent activities in BPM modelling of light propagation in optical waveguides that have been carried out in the framework of COST 240 European Project: Techniques for Modelling and Measuring Advanced Photonic Telecommunications Components, Working Group 2, Waveguide Devices. In particular, the results of an investigation of a guide with a balance of gain and loss is reported, and a model for simulation of second harmonic generation (SHG) in optical waveguides is presented
