Abstract
The energy balance criterion is the most widely used tool for verification of diffraction computations. Two examples are given, in which numerical methods imply that the criterion is fulfilled exactly, but results are incorrect: in the first case due to problem´s parameters lying beyond the region of the method´s validity, in the second case due to a programming error
