Abstract
Measuring electromagnetic characteristics of various media is a starting point in the development of many microwave technologies and instruments. One of the most simple and promising methods is the method of a partially filled waveguide with a shortened end. In a waveguide having a shortened end, a sample which is homogeneous along a certain direction, is placed. Then the wave propagation along such a partially filled waveguide is measured. From such measurements, the sample material characteristics, such as complex permittivity and loss tangent, may be derived
