Abstract
The trace transform, a generalisation of the Radon transform, consists of tracing an image with straight lines along which certain functionals of the image function are calculated. The paper presents the properties a functional must have in order to allow the estimation of the angle of rotation, shift vector and scaling factor between two images, so that the two images can be brought to complete registration for pixel by pixel comparison for fault detection
