Abstract :
The the coupling between linear parallel waveguides in a photonic-crystal dielectric slab is investigated with a super sell approach. The crystalline structure is determined by a periodic array of holes in the dielectric slab. The possibility of very dense packaging of high-speed parallel interconnects with spacing of ∼ 1 μm between the channel waveguides is shown. These results can be of interest in design of AWG and optical switches with high level of integration. More detailed investigation of inverse photonic crystal waveguides is required to determine optimal crystalline structure to be employed in design of photonic crystal directional couplers.
