Abstract
Techniques for the generation, processing and transmission of picosecond pulses at 1300 nm using praseodymium doped fluoride fibre amplifiers (PDFFAs) are presented. A method for gain-flattening and minimising the polarisation mode dispersion of PDFFAs is described.
