  • Abstract
    A simple, cost effective and reliable design for a 1.5-/spl mu/m WDM system for access networks is proposed. The WDM system can be constructed using existing optical devices employing six wavelengths and 16-nm channel spacing. The 1.5-/spl mu/m WDM system of six wavelengths with a power penalty below 0.5 dB was designed using MQW-DFB-LDs and existing optical filters constructed with two stages. No power penalty was observed in this WDM system with 16-nm /spl lambda/sp.
