Abstract
The facts and fiction of robots with human capabilities are reviewed. Theories of brain and mind are discussed. The theories considered suggest that an artificial system that seems intelligent must have many of the characteristics of the human body, so that it can experience the world as humans do. Such robots, with neural nets for brains, are discussed.
