Abstract
Novel toroidal coils with Supermendur cores can efficiently induce localized supra-threshold electric fields with components perpendicular to the air interface inside the volume conductor, and eliminate the problem of coil heating, allowing longer periods of stimulation at high frequencies. In-vitro measurements of the electric fields confirm the theoretical predictions that toroidal coils can be used for transcutaneous magnetic stimulation of nerves
