Abstract :
Medical facilities as well as most other commercial, industrial, and educational facilities depend heavily on telecommunications, data, and computer networks. These often experience problems with signal quality and noise because of the high-speed, low-level signals. In addition, there are serious issues that relate to electrical safety as well as computer grounding and communications. Topics such as the 11 different ground systems, connections to ground, avoiding potential difference, avoiding circulating currents, and wiring methods are discussed. Three areas specific to networks require special attention. These are equipment bonding, isolated earth ground, and isolated power systems.
