Abstract
The arrival of multi-format DTV and advances in display technology suggest that these multiple formats may be commonly viewed on pixelated displays. Achieving acceptable quality in the viewed images will require a reexamination of the methods used to process images for such displays. This paper provides a brief overview, of the challenges to maintaining high image quality while affordably executing real-time temporal and spatial scaling, color space conversion, pixel resampling, and waveform generation (for both pulse width and amplitude modulation) for a range of display technologies whose characteristics and addressing modes continue to evolve
