Abstract
A novel edge detection method based on a neighbourhood similarity criterion is presented in this paper. In this algorithm, the pixels in the original image that have minimum numbers of similar pixels among its neighbouring pixels in the filtering window are labelled as edge pixels. Simulation results demonstrate that this approach performs well in noise-free images but it is superior to the others in images corrupted by AWGV. Moreover, the algorithm is fast and has low computational complexity.
