Abstract
This paper presents a theoretical analysis that validates the regularization method proposed by Kataoka (1991) for identifying the power system voltage instability limit. The theory provides a clear and intuitive explanation of how the regularization method works, its limitation and how to handle the limitation. The theory offers constructive guidance for improving the algorithms in the selection of the regularization function and step-length. The improved regularization method is illustrated via numerical examples
