Abstract
Electric motors are the work horse of the industrial sector and they consume nearly 60% of electricity in an industrial environment. This paper highlights the importance of improving the efficiency of motors and drives and how it relates to the sustainable growth of the manufacturing sector. The current market penetration of the adjustable speed drives, the impact of government regulations world-wide, the tools that are being developed at the Electric Power Research Institute to educate its members and their customers are the key focus areas of this paper.
