Abstract
This paper summarizes the state-of-art particle swarm optimization (PSO) applications for resolving the economic dispatch (ED) problem, which is considered as one of the complex problems to be tackled. The PSO techniques have drawn much attention from the power system community and been successfully applied in many complex optimization problems in power systems. This paper focuses on the application of PSO techniques to the ED problems and describes their advantages and disadvantages in resolving the ED problems
