Abstract :
In this paper, we propose a computer aided design (CAD), so called HiperionCAD, which allows the design and optimization of optical communication networks. The tool has been developed by means of the model driven development (MDD) approach. A graphical modeling framework (GMF) has been employed to model the domain, automatic code generation and graphic edition of the object models. The HiperionCAD software allows the network visual design and the following computations: power budget, chromatic dispersion and polarization mode dispersion. Moreover, we propose an optimization procedure, which is provided as one of the HiperionCAD´s tools, based on genetic algorithms (GA) so that each device comprising the optical network is set to optimize its power budget.
