  • Abstract
We demonstrated transmission of 16×10 Gb/s WDM channels over 400 km of fiber with 80 km spacing between erbium-doped silica fiber amplifiers. Each span consisted of standard single mode and non-zero dispersion-shifted fibers and was optimised for bi-directional transmission. The measured Q factor was greater than 9.1 for all channels, with a maximum fiber-induced Q penalty of -2.0 dB
