Abstract
Researches involve in medical, biomedical, health related issues, etc. depend heavily on medical records. Literatures survey indicates that about 82 percent medical research papers of Taiwan adopted the national health insurance database (NHID) of Taiwan as research data resources. Among the 112 papers that have been compiled in this paper, only three researches applied data mining method. This research attempts to integrate the usages of medical records and propose the schema for a multipurpose medical database. The concept of the design is usage oriented. This paper reports the first phase of the research. The medical related researches that used NHID database of Taiwan are analyzed. The analyses include the data, the purposes as well as the methods adopted in the researches. The findings are compared with the research trend world wide. The absences of current medical database of Taiwan for data mining are discussed as well after the analyses.
