Abstract :
Water resource is one of irreplaceable strategic resources of human survival and social development and an important factor in flood disaster and drought disaster assessment. With Qingjiang River as the test in this paper, normalized difference water index and modified normalized difference water index have been employed to extract water area from Landsat and HJ1B imageries so as to quantitatively research the dynamic change of water resource distribution. The results show that the total water resource area of Qingjiang River 16.19 km2 in 1987, and that increased to 91.22 km2 in 2009. The results imply two models can accurately extract water resource area and both can be used to monitor water resources dynamic change in water resource management and natural disasters risk assessment.
