Abstract :
Security constrained unit commitment (SCUC) is becoming a key calculation in modern electric energy markets. This calculation extends conventional unit commitment (UC) to include the pre- and post-contingency constraints of the power transmission network. Such constraints complicate the problem considerably, and much work remains to be done to implement them satisfactorily. This paper offers a discussion of the analytical and computational challenges that they pose
