Abstract
The National Polar-orbiting Operational Environmental Satellite System Preparatory Project (NPP) Interface Data Processing Segment (IDPS) will provide significantly improved operational capabilities and benefits to satisfy critical civil and national security requirements for space-based, remotely sensed environmental data. As a cornerstone of an Integrated Global Observing System, the system will also provide sustained, space-based measurements to ensure continuity of data for monitoring, understanding, and predicting climate change and its impacts on seasonal and longer time scales. Collocation of an IDPS at Department of Defense (DoD) and Department of Commerce (DOC) weather Centrals will provide timely data to operational users. The Centrals will in turn provide the data to their broader user community.
