  • Abstract
In today´s industries, there is a great need for competent managers. However, many do not know what it takes to be a manager. This paper seeks to explore attributes which young engineers need to cultivate so they can progress to becoming competent managers. These include displaying initiative, taking on additional responsibilities, and being a problem solver in the work place. The author´s experience is used to support the benefit of taking the initiative, assuming responsibilities and being diligent at one´s assigned tasks.
