Abstract :
An approach is presented that integrates IEEE professional standards, with the process suggestions of "Control Objectives for Information and related Technology" (CobiT) and customer focused IT Service Management (ITSM) / IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) framework best practices. Engineering managers are professional problem solvers possessing the skills needed in today\´s highly governed and regulated financial and medical institutions. IT has evolved into a system-of-systems to deliver services to end-users. Auditors reference both CobiT and ITIL as best practices for managing change in these environments. Engineers adhering to IEEE professional standards can provide the disciplined approach that not only ensures documentation of change, but also controls change to the configuration of the system-of-systems. A cost effective management solution implementing true configuration management into non-engineering or product development environments can be realized. This approach is a business service, process driven framework focused solely on delivering cost-effective and efficient IT services to customers, and managed through the engineering discipline of configuration management.
