Abstract
In the personal rapid transit (PRT) system, a double winding linear induction motor (LIM) is used for the purpose of redundancy. In a double winding LIM, two sets of windings are wound in a single yoke, and each of them are controlled by separate inverters. If the flux reference frames that reside in the two inverters are not identical, then abrupt flux changes take place in the region where the two windings are overlaid. Such an abrupt change in the air gap flux causes a reduction of force due to the discontinuous flux distribution. The proposed method enforces the two flux angles to be aligned. Angle information exchange can be realized through the use of the RS-232 communication between the two inverter systems
