Abstract
In this paper, the observation results of the prebreakdown light emission phenomena under divergent fields in liquid helium are reported. Two structures of light emission, filamentary and bush-like, were found for both positive and negative polarities. Most of the negative light emission should a filamentary structure, while it was a bush-like one for the positive. Light emission appeared for only a few microseconds for negative needle, while it lasts much longer than 25 μs for positive needle. The pulse frequency of the light emission differed between the polarities
